Ahed Tamimi is a Palestinian Youth Activist who at 16 years old became a political prisoner for the act of slapping an Israeli soldier while her mother video taped the encounter. The video went viral.
Ahed is currently serving an 8 month prison sentence for essentially humiliating this soldier. The slapping happened when this soldier was attempting to force his way into her family’s home. They wanted to use the Tamimi’s rooftop as a sniper perch so they could shoot at protestors. This happened the day after her cousin had been horribly maimed after being shot by some of these same soldiers.
Life in the occupied west bank is unbearable. The UN has declared it unsuitable for human life yet the Palestinians are not allowed to leave. They cannot leave without paying huge fees and waiting in squalid conditions for months, not even knowing if they will for sure be able to get out. 97% of the water there is toxic and not fit for human consumption.
In the last few weeks as the Gazans have been demonstrating the Great March of Return; peaceful but for a few rocks being thrown by slingshots. They simply want to be free from the outdoor prison they are confined in. The IDF snipers have been murdering people, in a focused and deliberate way. They shoot and kill young boys. They shoot and kill journalists wearing flak vests clearly marked ‘press’. Now they have started to shoot at the medics themselves as they struggle to save the wounded and dying. The murder count keeps rising. It has surpassed 100 already and over 2000 people injured. The hospitals are completely maxed out and people are dying from wounds that could have been treated had they had the proper supplies. Meanwhile not one single Israeli soldier has been wounded. But the US ambassador for the UN, Nikki Haley claims that Israel has shown “remarkable restraint”

It appears as a willful extermination of an entire people while the world watches in horror yet no one will step in on their behalf.
